The People’s Champion

Lochwinnoch Duck –

After a lengthy spell in prison for the attempted murder of his estranged cousin Daffy, LD has returned to training. The outright favourite to win both events, the smart money’s on this one.

“I pity the fools!” – L. Duck (2008)

Clyde Silver Rudder Crew

Lorna Logan - Organises all Clyde activities whilst still managing to train like a maniac herself. Leading Ginger of Scottish Rowing. Womens Heley

winner.

Scottish Commonwealth Representation

Roberto Usai - This top Italian Lightweight has taken a course of study in Glasgow in a bid to be selected for this world famous race.

Amanda Larcombe - The top sculler of the University of the West of Scotland. In fact, the only sculler of UWS. In fact, the only member!

Jonny Logan - What can be said about JL that has not already been in Rowing Action or a court of Law? Suffice to say the Bent Rigger is the highlight of his rowing career.

GB Representation Scottish Commonwealth Representation

Caitie Gorton-Ramsay - Rower, Sculler, Cox, Coach, G-P does it all. Proud owner of a new Carl Douglas 2- more fiercely protected than newborn tiger cubs. Womens Henley winner.

Scottish Commonwealth Representation

James Murphy - Last minute addition to the crew, can this volatile loner who plays by his own rules crack the case before— oops, that is, can he brings the luck of the Irish to the weegies.

Imogen Walsh - Queen of the flapjack. Selected for GB Unis team, won Gold Medal (or Gelder Medallione) at Euro Unis in hotly contested WL4-.

Mattfro Loader - Voted ‘most likely to drool during race’. Also makes a mean Banoffee pie.

Supersub Mo Villiers - As a fully trained Forensic Sciencey-ologist, Mo plans to go CSI Lochwinnoch on her opposition and conduct an autopsy on the race.

Graeme Dreghorn (cox) - This member of the first Scottish Unis squad for the Euro Unis Champs took a Rob Wadell style break from rowing to forge a lucrative football career with top team ‘E.K. Fire’

St Andrew Silver Rudder Crew

Michaela Spitzer

Katie Smith

the loudest England rugby supporter in Edinburgh. Budding triathlete.

Brison Ellinghaus – believes experience will win out over youth. As long as the veterans get a head start.

Jan Wildenhain –

aka “big Jan”

- Scheiss Heiss

Ales Korvas –

aka “even bigger Ales”

Iain Wilson –

lost in last year’s Bent Rigger event. Going for all or nothing this year.

GB Representation

Alison Rutter - previous winner of the St Andrew “golden oar”. returned successfully from Mordor (Clydesdale).

Marianne Lee - moving up from last year’s Bent Rigger crew.

Jo Wherrett (cox) - only returning member of last years losing crew.

Clyde Bent Rigger Crew

Doctor1 Sharon Doherty – Her first race entered was a win - the Clyde Alden 1x sprints. Ian Brooke - Most likely to start a sentence with “When I was rowing the Atlantic….” Doctor2
Sarah Sarah Locke - Most prone to injury. Currently in the best condition for years as she only has a broken hand. Phil York - Silver medal winner Yorkoff 2008. His brother was second last. Member of the Clydesdale Corporate regatta winning Safety-at-Sea crew. Phil
Doctor3 Malika Punukollu Is there a doctor in the boat? Actually, there are three, so anyone falling ill (with a very narrow range of ailments) will be well looked after. Peter Sandford – Clyde’s no. 2 Triathlete with a bike that predates the inner tube. Now converted to Rowing. Still wearing lycra. Slushee
Doctor4 Shohista Saidkasimova –
As expert steersperson of the women’s 4x, any suggestion that Shohista will steer the 8+ with a footplate and sub a blow up doll for the cox is unfounded. Unfortunately.
Gareth Owen - Another Corporate regatta convert. Clyde has so many SaS members we are thinking of starting a writers guild. Gareth
Coach Lorna Logan (cox) –
As she says “this is the last year I am doing lightweight” every year, Lorna is relishing the coxes diet of air and sunlight.
Neil Barnes – This former Dragon boating fitness mentalist is supersub for the Bent Rigger. Neil

St Andrew Bent Rigger Crew

Mairi Torrie
- former international fencer turned rower

Mareen Spitzer

Clemmie Robertshaw

I am confused that Johnnie can win Eurovision twice but rows for Scotland, and would suggest that a team song should be
I’ve been waiting such a long time,
    looking out for you
    But you’re not here
    What’s another year?

I’ve been waking such a long time,
    reaching out for you
    But you’re not near
    What’s another year?

    What’s another year
For someone who’s lost everything that he owns?
    What’s another year
For someone who’s getting used to being alone?

I’ve been praying such a long time
It’s the only way to hide the fear
    What’s another year?

    What’s another year
For someone who’s lost everything that he owns?
    What’s another year
For someone who’s getting used to being alone?

I’ve been crying such a long time
With such a lot of pain in every tear

    What’s another year?
For someone who is getting used to being alone

Glad to see the rudder back in competition. Time to show the soft east siders what it’s all about, or graciously let them win - depends on team tactics I guess.

Gaun Clyde - I will be watching Eurosport and Setanta for highlights.

  3. Andy Triggs Hodge said,

All the best from Team Massive! Up the Clyde!!!

  4. Alan C said,

I am so gutted I did not make the crew. I know I am more of a sculler than a sweep rower, but I thought some recent encouraging results - I beat that Norweigan guy - would at least have put me in the bent rigger. I am going to train even harder for next year!

  5. Olaf T. said,

Hey Alan, you have to be grateful you were in line 6… see you to Lucerne in 2 weeks!!!

  6. Roberto Usai said,

I think if Luini,Pettinari,Gilardoni and more more others read the text in my photo, they would die by laughing… =o)

  7. Sarah said,

come on guys, surely you have some better photos than that?? it’s all weirdly elongated - a bit like one of those funny mirrors!!

  8. david bailey said,

All photos are accurate likenesses of the rowers in question. That the rowers themselves are strangely elongated in real life and have distorting mirrors in their own houses to make them look normal, I cannot say.

  9. Sarah said,

are you saying that there’s therefore a huge ‘distorting mirror’ conspiracy going on so that when we go into, say, a changing room in a store, the staff have a distorting mirror that rotates into place at the flick of a switch without us noticing? so that wherever we go we think we look normal? i find that hard to believe. it’s like saying the Bent Rigger is not a world-renowned, elite competition. who would believe that????

  10. Lochwinnoch Duck said,

I am insulted that there is no profile up for my entry. We are clearly the leading candidate in the public eye and this attempt to sweep us under the carpet will not be tolerated. Open and fair racing is essential and any further discrimination will be met with the harshest response!

    Quack!

  11. Mahe D said,

Its a no-brainer….Clyde to win. They’ve got Mr T in the boat!

If only it wasn’t an Olympic Year……..

  12. Moira Maccallum said,

Clyde to win…in the words of a former Clyde coach “step on the gas pedal” and you’ll be fine - good luck!!
